Ef eitthvað er óljóst eða frekari aðstoðar er þörf þá bendum við á að alltaf má leita upplýsinga í gegnum netföng skólanna eða senda póst á netfangið grundaskoli@grundaskoli.is eða á skrifstofa@brak.is

Símsvörun á skrifstofu skólans er einnig opin sem fyrr. Grundaskóli í síma 433-1400 og Brekkubæjarskóli í síma 433-1300.

Primary schools

Akranes primary schools have undertaken the following measures to respond to the ban on large gatherings that entered into effect at midnight on 15 March.

Icelandic society faces new challenges
The measures that have been taken, including those that pertain to schools in the country, have no precedent in modern Icelandic history. Everyone is aware of the importance of being careful, responding appropriately and following the recommendations of the authorities. The safety and health of students and staff is of primary concern.

Under these circumstances, traditional school-related activities cannot be maintained. They will be limited and altered significantly. During the emergency phase, our joint mission is to keep children and young people active, both mentally and physically. Teachers and other staff will do their best to ensure that the students’ school and homework is as focused and effective as circumstances permit. The team for each school grade has prepared a scenario for the work ahead, with solutions that vary according to the students’ age and state of development. We are now utilising the school’s contingency plan, which consists of a combination of school attendance and homework.

Information on the arrangements
Supervising teachers will send information on their arrangements for both the days when students attend school and the days when the students stay at home. It is important for teachers to maintain good communication with parents and students. Parents are encouraged to not be passive participants in this communication, but to be active in sending questions and ideas for improvements. It has never been more important for school staff and parents to collaborate and work as a team unit. Fortunately, this uncertain situation will pass and, despite everything, the future is bright. The organisation of the schools has the aim of ensuring that everyone continues their studies, despite the temporary disruption of traditional school attendance.

Recommendations to parents

  • Schoolmates who are not in the same group in school (the same class) should not interact closely outside of school.
  • If the children are mature enough to obey instructions on reduced contact with friends, it is possible to permit them to play together. If they do so, they must not engage in any play that involves touching one another physically, or sharing toys or equipment that they touch with their bare hands.
  • Children and young people should always wash their hands thoroughly, both before they meet their friends and after they come home.
  • Families should bear in mind that if children interact frequently with friends or relatives from other schools or school groups, there will be contact between groups that would otherwise remain separate. Such contact should be avoided as much as possible.
  • Families are encouraged to use technology to maintain good contact with loved ones who are at increased risk of catching COVID-19 — particularly elderly people and those with underlying illnesses.
  • This is also a good opportunity to teach children to write letters, which will help them to practice handwriting and spelling, use their imagination, and think in “problem solving mode” about interactions with loved ones.

Cafeteria, fruit break and bread shop
School canteens are closed, as is the fruit break and the bread shop for the upper forms. Parents must therefore prepare school lunches for their children. The settlement of fees for lunch registration and the after school centre will be recalculated in light of these decisions.

The school building will be divided into closed units
The school buildings are divided into units to prevent contact between grades. All staff has been divided into ten individual teams, each of which is responsible for one grade. In this way, we try to ensure that if the virus reaches one group, which may have to stop attending school, the other nine groups will continue as before.

Students and staff are therefore not allowed to enter zones where other groups are. Students in each grade enter through their own entrance, and there is only one grade in each lobby on any given day. It is therefore important that students only use their entrance.

To prevent students from being in others parts of the school than their allocated zone, the school will be locked until 7:55 in the morning, when a staff member on their team opens the entrance to receive them. Students will be escorted outside at the end of the school day.

During this time, no one is allowed to enter the schools except the students and staff who are supposed to be in the school at any given time. Parents are therefore not allowed to follow their children beyond the front door, and must communicate with staff via telephone or e-mail.

School and after-school centre hours

  • School is from 8-12 each day.
  • The after-school centre opens at 13 and closes at 16:15. Students bring their own lunch to the after-school centre.
  • The table below shows when students in each grade should attend school. A “rolling system” is followed, whereby students in each grade attend school for two days out of six.
  • We try to accommodate the youngest students by providing 1st grade students with leisure services in the after-school centre for three non-school days and two non-school days for 2nd grade students.
  • There are no classes in the gymnasia, swimming pool or arts and craft rooms.
  • If there is an opportunity to increase school attendance, or if there are any changes due to new information, you will be notified immediately.

Concerning households where some members are in quarantine and others are not:

  • Children who have the maturity and capacity to take care of their own hygiene and keep the required distance from quarantined parents and from their schoolmates may continue to attend school. It is very important to observe proper hygiene; for instance, to use bathroom facilities.
  • Parents of older children who are in quarantine and can maintain the required distance from children during their quarantine may continue to go to work if remote working is not an option.
  • The entire household must quarantine itself if the children do not have the maturity or capacity to follow the instructions that apply to quarantine measures. Another solution in such cases would be for the household members who are not in quarantine to move elsewhere during the quarantine period.

We, the members of the school community, will join hands for the project at hand. We will act without delay and intend to solve the task by way of successful collaboration between homes and the school.

School administrators and the teams of teachers for each grade continue to do their duty and instruct their students via remote teaching on non-school days. If something is unclear or further assistance is needed, information can always be obtained by e-mailing or phoning the schools or by e-mailing grundaskoli@grundaskoli.is or skrifstofa@brak.is

The telephones in the school office will be answered as before. The number is 433-1400 for Grundaskóli and 433-1300 for Brekkubæjarskóli.

Zostaną one ograniczone i znacznie zmodyfikowane.

Informacje o nowym trybie pracy

Godziny otwarcia szkoły i świetlicy

  • Szkoły otwarte są w godz. 8:00–12:00 każdego dnia.
  • Świetlice będą otwarte w godz. 13:00–16:15.

My, członkowie społeczności szkolnej, będziemy działać wspólnie, aby wszyscy mogli funkcjonować w tej trudnej sytuacji. Poprzez natychmiastowe działania i skuteczną współpracę między szkołami i rodzicami mamy zamiar poradzić sobie z obecnym wyzwaniem.

Administracje szkół i zespoły nauczycieli przypisane do klas nadal wypełniają swoje obowiązki poprzez nauczanie na odległość w dni „nieszkolne”. Jeśli coś jest niejasne lub potrzebują Państwo dalszej pomocy, należy skontaktować się telefoniczne lub e-mailowo bezpośrednio ze szkołą lub wysłać wiadomość e-mail na adres grundaskoli@grundaskoli.is lub skrifstofa@brak.is

Sekretariaty szkół pracują w niezmienionych godzinach. Numery telefonu to 433-1400 dla Grundaskóli i 433-1300 dla Brekkubæjarskóli.
