Cultural life in Akranes is blooming. It’s important in a flourishing town that cultural life is robust so everyone can find something to their liking.  In many ways, culture is the foundation of each municipality; residents look to the arts and associated activities to enrich their lives and to find an outlet for their creative needs. Cultural life is strong in Akranes, not least in the field of music. The Akranes School of Music advances vigorous and diverse work and many locals sing in a choir or play in an orchestra. There are regular exhibitions at the Kirkjuhvoll Arts Centre and various artistic events all across town. Vökudagar, the big Akranes cultural festival, takes place at the start of November each year. Locals and visitors enjoy all the best that local artists have to offer and many other artists also make their way to the peninsula to take part in this amazing festival.
